International Women’s Day takes place every year on March 8th, a global day that celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the world.
It’s also a time to recognise the many gender inequalities that still exist today, and talk about what we can do to combat them. Imagine a gender equal world, free of stereotypes and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, inclusive, and of course, a world of equality.
'Break The Bias' is the theme of this year, which has been chosen to highlight the individual responsibility we all bear to call out gender bias and equality.
The first official International Women’s Day was held in 1911, celebrated on March in Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and Denmark. Now, this is celebrated in countries all around the world, and what better way to spend International Women’s Day than by joining in panel talks or protests with like-minded women?

Invest in female artists at The Other Art Fair
Saatchi Art's The Other Art Fair will return to the Old Truman Brewery with an exciting line-up of artists which foregrounds female creators. This will feature 62% of female artists, with 50% being new to the fair and 10% Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, making it one of the most diverse and vibrant art shows taking place in the capital this year.

See a show at the Royal Opera House
The Royal Opera House is bringing some amazing event for this year's International Women's Day. Visitors to St Pancras International Station will be treated to live performances of Lost and Found, seven micro-operas created by all-female teams supported by the Royal Opera House programme.
The same evening, the ROH's Clore Studio will host Interrogating the Ballerina an examination of society's perception of the female ballet dancers.

Britain's Women Documentary Makers
Running at BFI Southbank from March 3-15, this film season shines a spotlight on Britain’s pioneering female documentary makers. It features 10 new film restorations from the BFI National Archive, including works by Ruby and Marion Grierson, Evelyn Spice and Muriel Box, as well as a study day focusing on Jill Craigie, hailed as Britain’s ‘first’ woman filmmaker.

Take a photo walk with a Pulitzer-prize winning photographer
An opportunity not to be missed by budding photographers, Leica has enlisted Pulitzer prize-winning photojournalist and documentary photographer Marissa Roth to take 12 aspiring female creatives on a social photo walk of London to mark International Women's Day. Starting from the Leica store in Mayfair, the two hour walk will also act as a workshop, helping photographers of all levels sharpen their skills.

Celebrate female chefs at Carousel
The difficulties faced by women trying to break into the fine dining industry are well documented, so what better time to celebrate those pioneering female chefs leading the charge? Fitzrovia's Carousel restaurant has enlisted Clare Finney, author of The Female Chef, to create a programme of five supper clubs showcasing the talents of some of the most respected women working in kitchens across the UK. Each will create a five-course menu, with a portion of the ticket price going towards charities chose by the chefs.
